Solcon's latest development in the field of Medium Voltage Inrush current limiting technology.

Application:  Drill and Oil rigs, utilizing large 1-10MVA  transformers for AC or DC drive.

Problem:  When  either transformer is connected to the 4160V generator, the generator sees an inrush current of 6-12 In.

When using transformers with unique output, each moving the voltage angle a numb er of degrees up and down, respectively.  Together, the transformers provide a phase shift of which is needed for the load (MV variable frequency drives).

The energy transient caused by the magnetization current (few thousand ampers at each transformer)  causses damaging voltage fluctuations, instability and equipment shutdowns, therefore, must be reduced. 

Solution:  A new innovative energy transient management system referred to as a "Transofter" provides the answer.  By the HRVS-TX Transofters for each "Rig", the transformers can be powered up onboard the oil drilling platform.  Each Transofter reduces the current inrush from from a few thousand ampers to less than 100 amper. (0.1 of the expected inrush current).

Solcon has delivered this new technology, the HRVS-TX series - "Transofter” in early September 2008.
