In this dual application, Solcon supplied both the soft starter, and the DC injection

brake unit used for the emergency brake. Solcon supplied the soft starter necessary

to eliminate both the high inrush current and mechanical shock on starting typical to

motors turning heavy blades. The integral motor protection built into each Solcon

RVS-DN ensures that the motor is protected from destructive situations such as

shear-pin, stall protection, under/over voltage, load loss, and others.

The Solbrake stops the motor by injecting DC current into the motor windings, thus

providing a high level of safety for the machine operators. The advanced Solbrake

auto-stop circuitry senses when the motor has stopped turning and disconnects the

DC injection circuitry, preventing the motor winding from excessive heat.
