Blue Marlin - Driving retractable thrusters

The Blue Marlin, refurbished by HHI (Hyundai Heavy Industries), was designed to carry heavy loads such as drilling rigs and other static floating objects.

The ship is equipped with 3 generators, rated at 3655KW, 6600V, 400A and 2 retractable thrusters rated at 4500KW, 6600V, 486A.

Genesis- Royal Caribbean - Bow Thruster

It is not surprising to find that the worlds largest passenger ship is equipped with Solcons' soft starter for the 5MW bow thruster. The engineers designing the Royal Caribbean knew to depend on Solcons' long term reliability for supplying this important device. Soft-starters on the bow thrusters eliminate the initial torque surge on the shaft, the voltage drop associated with starting large motors and reduce wear and tear from the mechanical system.

Blue Star Ferry - Driving thrusters

The Blue Star Fleet depends on Solcon Soft-Starters to deliver power to bow thrusters and HVAC chillers. Marine engineers know to depend on Solcon when high quality and longevity in adverse conditions are paramount.

“Lochnagar” pipe laying vessel - Driving Bow Thrusters

Adding 20 meters in length and 5 meters in breadth, the now 100 meter Lochnagar owned by Brasil Oil Petro Bros was converted from a supplier vessel to a pipe laying vessel at Viktor Lenac shipyard in Croatia. The Solcon RVS-DN soft-starter was installed to start the vessel's bow thruster rated at 1800KW/690V

CGG Fohn - Driving Main Propulsion - Schottel Azimuth Thrusters

The CGG Fohn is designed to maintain its position using its Schottel made, variable pitch propelled, 360o azimuth thrusters. Since the motors are at 1.2MW each, the high inrush current associated with motor starting would require oversized generating capabilities

Moby Wonder - Driving bow thruster

When the marine architects and engineers were designing the Moby Wonder, they turned to Solcon for the most dependable soft-starter available to ensure continuous performance under intensive and adverse conditions of constant vibrations, temperature variations and corrosive environmental conditions.

“Cavour” Aircraft Carrier - Starting Main Thrusters

The crucial pump and fan cooling the turbine, requiring heavy duty dependability and long term reliability, are being started by electronic soft starters to eliminate the torque surge and water hammer, thus protecting the mechanical system from undue wear and tear.

The RVS-DN was selected due to its robust design, excellent field proven reliability and successful performance under the Italian naval industry tests.

Navion Hispania Floating Buoy Platform - Bow thruster

At 2.5 MW operating in low voltage, the starting current would have been about 10,000A. Using the RVS-DN, the starting current was limited and the voltage drop caused by drawing high currents was eliminated.

ZPMC 4000 Floating crane - Multi-Start- soft starting 3 thrusters

With 3 medium voltage thrusters to start during complex operations, the contractor turned to Solcon for the most dependable soft-starting solution available to ensure continuous performance under intensive and adverse conditions of constant vibrations, temperature variations and corrosive environmental conditions, eliminating the current inrush that causes severe voltage drops.

ZPMC 7000 Floating crane - Multi-Start- soft starting 2 thrusters

The Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery co. was contracted by the Shanghai Salvage Bureau of the Ministry of Communication of the Peoples Republic of China to build a floating crane.

With 2 medium voltage thrusters to start during complex operations, the contractor turned to Solcon for the most dependable soft-starting solution available.
