Adding 20 meters in length and 5 meters in breadth, the now 100 meter Lochnagar owned by Brasil Oil Petro Bros was converted from a supplier vessel to a pipe laying vessel at Viktor Lenac shipyard in Croatia.
The Solcon RVS-DN soft-starter was installed to start the vessel's bow thruster rated at 1800KW/690V. Soft starting the thruster eliminates high inrush current and damaging mechanical torque on the motor shaft; eliminating problems from voltage sags in the power system, to reduced life of the mechanical drive system.
