Recently built by Fincantieri, the Cavour is a new class of aircraft carriers known as "Nuova Unita Maggiore" ("New Major Vessel"). Initially called the Andrea Doria she is to embody the quintessence of the modern naval war-ship.

The crucial pump and fan cooling the turbine, requiring heavy duty dependability and long term reliability, are being started by electronic soft starters to eliminate the torque surge and water hammer, thus protecting the mechanical system from undue wear and tear.

The RVS-DN was selected due to its robust design, excellent field proven reliability and successful performance under the Italian naval industry tests.
